Introducing the Particle Generator: Bake Game VFX to Spritesheets

Great game effects — a burst of fire, a puff of smoke, a shower of sparkles — usually mean firing up an engine's particle system or hand-animating frames. We built the Particle Generator so you can design those effects from a live emitter in your browser and walk away with ready-to-use assets. It's live now in our Tools section, and like the rest of our gamedev suite it runs entirely on your machine — nothing is uploaded.

Dial in an effect from a live emitter

Start from a preset — explosion, fire, smoke, sparkle, fountain or magic — and tune it in real time as the emitter plays right in front of you. Every knob that matters is there: particle count, lifetime, emission angle and spread, speed range, gravity and spin, start and end size, and the colours the particles fade through. Choose a one-shot Burst for an impact or explosion, or a seamless-looping Continuous emitter for a flame or a magical aura that never stops.

Deterministic, so what you see is what you ship

The emitter is seed-based and fully deterministic: the same seed always produces the exact same effect, frame for frame. Change the seed to roll a fresh variation, or keep it fixed to fine-tune an effect you like without it drifting on you. It also means the animation you bake out is precisely the one you were previewing — no surprises between the editor and your game.

Bake to a spritesheet, GIF or PNG

When an effect looks right, bake it out. Export an animated spritesheet with a JSON clip map (frame count from your duration and fps), a ready-to-share GIF, or a PNG — or grab everything in a single .zip. The spritesheet-plus-JSON pairs naturally with our Spritesheet Studio, and the baked effect drops straight into a game built with the Game Maker, so your explosions and spell effects are only a couple of clicks from being in-game.

Try it now

The Particle Generator is free, runs entirely in your browser, and never uploads a thing. The best way to understand it is to pick a preset and watch it come alive.

Open the Particle Generator and design your first effect — we can't wait to see the VFX you come up with.
