Good news for those who can not wait for the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Developer Infinity Ward announced Monday that the 2-vs-2 multiplayer Gunfight can already be tested this Friday on the PS4 in an open alpha.

The announcement was accompanied by a short trailer, which also allows a little insight into the five playable maps. These are called Stack, King, Speedball, Docks and Pine. The latter may be familiar to many already from previous trailers and streams. As the trailer can be seen, for the time being only PS4 owners can enjoy the Alpha. Whether there is still a test phase for Xbox One and PC is not known.

Gunfight combines fast action with tactics

With Gunfight, Infinity Ward is trying to bring the “Modern Warfare” series back to its roots. So players can look forward to a high game pace again. But in order for the matches not to end in chaotic shootouts where only fast reactions count, the developers have implemented several tactical features that take the speed out a bit.

A round in Gunfight is usually over in less than a minute and players have only one life left. Despite the time limit so every action wants to be well considered. The winner is the team, which can win six out of eleven rounds first.

Nvidia’s raytracing provides realistic lighting and shadow effects

In parallel with the Gunfight Alpha announcement, Nvidia also released a trailer showing how Raytracing technology is being used in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Especially flames, muzzle flashes and sparks look a lot better with raytracing. It can also be seen how the use of the technique provides realistic shadows, which also change according to the light’s impact.

Release

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be released on October 25 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
