In a few days, the beta for the multiplayer mode of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launches. In contrast to the past Closed Alpha, this time all players can participate.

There are two beta weekends to join. However, a few other rules apply. This coming weekend, starting on September 14th, only PS4 players can participate. Next week, from 21st September, all platforms will be there, even with Crossplay.

Beta schedules

First beta: September 14th to 16th (PS4 only)

  • Early Access from September 12th for pre-orders and owners of an Early Access-Key
  • PS Plus is required to participate according to the official website

Second beta: September 21 to 23 (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

  • Early Access from September 19th for pre-orders and owners of an Early Access key
  • Crossplay between all platforms is possible
  • PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold are required to participate , according to the official website

What do you need?

If you want to join in the normal times, you don’t need to register or to redeem a code. Just download the beta client from the store.

On the other hand, if you want to be present at the early access times, you must have pre-ordered the game and by now you should have received a beta code, which you can redeem on Callofduty.com.

When does it start?

You can download the corresponding client on the PS4 already today from 19 to 20 o’clock , as soon as it is available in the store. The preload for Xbox One and PC will start next week before September 19th. An exact date is not yet known.

There is a new client for the beta. So if you have the alpha installed on your console, the file will not help you anymore. You have to re-download the beta in the corresponding store.

What can be played in this beta?

Activision promises changing maps and playlists over the course of both test phases. There should also be a few surprises for the participants. 2v2 Gunfight mode is in the Beta, which was already playable in the Alpha. You can also take a look at the regular multiplayer part that sends you into a 6v6 player battle.

What maps and more modes are exactly in Beta is still remain to be seen. But one this is certain, the single player campaign of Modern Warfare is not part of the beta.

Release

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be released on October 25 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
